sup all.
just a small question. i can give 40kb/s upload for sharing, well whats more suggestive?
fast uploadspeed - less uploadslots (example: 4 slots with 10kb/s)
balanced settigens (like 6 slots with ~6kb/s)
many slots - less uploadspeed (like 10 slots with 4kb/s).
i must append, that i give upload only to community-user with "pornklinkpro" in the nickname! |

Actually, I have tested this (don't laugh). :D And i've came to the conclussion that it doesn't make a difference, 2GB shared is 2GB shared, as long as it's not to just a small group of people. I have my mule set to 4 open slots, 1 is a friend slot usually, the rest to random people.
A note: I don't recommend just sharing to people of this board (community sharing). While it's ok to give people in this community priority, it's not healthy for the community (as a whole) to do this exclusively. |

| I spread my UL of 35 unto 2-3 slots, depends on what I am doing. And like J@son, I try to be fair in my choice of Friend slots. |

He wasn't asking what your uplaod speed was though. He asked about the ammount of upload slots to spread releases most efficiently.
Like J@son said, it doesn't make too much a difference. You have a pretty good speed (40), so releases should move pretty well. However, if you have less bandwidth than that, uploading faster to less people will help spread the release a bit faster. This is because people will complete chunck faster, and thus be secondary sources, faster, and (at least theoretically) help spread the release faster. Of cource, this is reliant on people sharing what they are downloading in a timely fashion. Most users are sharing/dling so much, that as J@son said, it would make only some impact. Slot focus, SOTN, and HOS are really share methods to help low bandwidth users make release go a bit faster. Above about 30k though, their impact would probably be mininal... |

thank you guys. now im a little bit smarter :idea:
ok i have decided me to 5 slots. theoretically that should be 8kb per slot, but not all user get constantly the full speed (dont know why). so mostly i have three with over 10kb and two slow slots. thats must be enough :) |

| The mod your using is probably using Slot Focus. So three people get upload spots, and two get 'trickles' slots...the trickles slots will move up to full spots once slots one through three get full chuncks.... |

But it's not as simple is that. For example, I have 67kbs upload speed, if I open 5 slots each will get around 13 kbs (theoretically), or if I open 2 slots each will get 33 kbs. I can fill those 2 slots faster than I can the 5 slots (looks good on paper). BUT...I still need to fill 3 more to make 5 slots, so in theory, it will take the same amount of time to fill 5 chunks.

As I had said before, 2GB shared is 2GB shared. The most important thing is, like H said. whether or not others are sharing what they are getting from you, that is the ultimate factor. And again, as H said, if you have a slow upload it may help to only open 2-3 slots, I think the benifits would be miniscule, but if you only have 12kbs upload even miniscule counts. |

The only time you'll notice a real difference is when you'd be sending out to 40 or so slots uncontrollably. I.E. eDonkey2Gay.
If you keep the slot number reasonably limited, then it doesn't make much difference at all.
