As a veteran of much JAV stuff, I can offer the following suggestions for consideration:
a) Yahoo Japan -- can be used to search for info on JAV (like when you are trying to find out what MILV081 is)

Not spectacularly accurate translations, but enough that you can get at least a guess as to what it says. I often use it to xlate the JAV summaries.
c) ActionJAV and AV21 both respond to english queries for models, subjects, and keywords:

d) This can be of some introduction:

e) If you are feeling more adventuresome, the following may be of use, but you may have to poke around a bit, guessing what links are until you get a feel for how the site is laid out. Sometimes the trick is to find a movie with a subject (Race Queens, for instance) or a model, and then you can get a listing of all the JAVs with that subject or model.

f) EMule has a search feature. You'd be surprised how much you can get by searching for a model's name (try both forms, Oikawa Nao, and Nao Oikawa -- and EMule can also search based on Hiragana/Kanji entries (see b above. Once you know something stands for what you want, like the H/K for "Race Queens" you can get still more entries by plugging those in as well as the Anglo words. Another thing to search for is the first 3-5 chars of the JAV series. "SHK" for Attackers' Shark. MILV for Million, and so on.
g) Look for studio sites:

Many times the trick is to figure out what link is the one pointing to the genre (most of the above sites have them). Also to learn which ones have screencaps as well as the box covers at a decent enough size that you can see them (ActionJAV is a really good place to start!). Once you have a JAV sequence number (i.e., MILV352, VSPDS130, etc.) you have an idea what to search for using EMule's search.
Once you know what you want (i.e., the first several letters of a JAV sequence, like MILVxxx, because you like some of those films) then you can plug MILV into the search feature of Ed2k or EMule (I recommend EMule), and find A LOT of stuff out there... literally Terabytes of it. If you don't see a specific one whose cover appeals, but do see other ones which might be of interest (for example, you looked for MILV130 but only found MILV131), then capture the description to the clipboard (use ctrl-c) and past it into the Babelfish site to see if it sounds like it is of interest. See if you can find the cover or a description using that info and/or the original H/K from the clipboard to hunt it down on Yahoo Japan or one of the many other sources above.
It's a little work, but I've usually found something I wanted within a month or so of finding its cover, and found lots of other things of interest while hunting down that information. I have an entire folder of potentially useful links I've kept anytime a site looked easy to navigate (some just can't be done without knowing japanese, but the ones above are mostly reasonable.)
