To deal with the issue of thread topic bumping, as well as a few other issues, create the ability for users to selectively choose to hide threads by creating a "hide this thread" button at the top of the thread/topic. In other words, if there exists 4 threads in American Release and user A chooses to hide the 4 threads, and user B logs on afterwards after being gone a long time. User B sees the 15 day old threads and posts "thx", the threads will not appear bumped for user A. In fact, user A will never know the threads exist unless clicking on a "unhide all hidden" button somewhere.
It'll work slightly better than auto-locking, because reigns must never be auto-locked, but human decision can tell the difference between a reign and a single post.
In short, the ability to hide threads we've already seen. |
