Start the program (client), connect to servers and click on the ed2k links.

Once you have eMule installed all you have to do is click on the movie Links, they will be added to eMule automatically.

Use Kademlia (Kad), this will keep you from finding so many fakes during a search. A lot of the servers aren't what they appear to be, there's only a few that are reliable. Nowadays most people are on the Kad network anyway.

Example:

As you see in the top left (highlighted in white). It connects basically the same way as it connects to the servers, but it isn't centralized. :)

Guys, just downloaded and installed emule. But i am running free version of zone alarm, and this may cause problems. Anyone know how to set it up without removing zone alarm and going to another firewall program?

ps, I did try turning off ZA while i downloaded, but that didn't work either. I still get a fail notice when testing ports and download just shows as "waiting" even though emaule says it's connected. :(

Start with a reboot and make sure eMule is closed. You'll have to put ZA into training mode if it isn't already (that means every time a program tries to connect for the first time ZA asks you if it's OK). This is done in one of the menus where there's a slider to choose your security level. I think that training mode is like one click down from the top. Then go into your program permissions, find eMule.exe and make sure all the permissions are listed as question marks. Change any that are Xs or checks into question marks by right clicking.

Now fire up eMule and try to connect. ZA should give you a series of pop ups saying that this program is trying to connect to the internet and that it's trying to act as a server. Click "always allow" for all of these. Now eM should be good. You can take ZA out of training mode now if you want.

Note that if you ever try to change your ports in eM you'll have to do this again.

I no longer use ZA so this is all from memory. Hopefully it will work out for you.

Yeah, so I have it installed, and ED2K is connected, but not Kad. Emule said this wouldn't matter, so I assume things aren't being blocked by ZA. But download just sits there doing nothing. Just says waiting all of the time. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Don't have these problems using Newsbin.

If your using a router, you may need to forward the emule port numbers.

Do you know how to do that on a lynksys router? I don't want to mess around with it, as generally everything works really well. Will I need to do this if I change firewall to something other than ZA, say outpost firewall pro, or keiro personal firewall?

you must open/forward both, the tcp (ed2k) und udp (kad) port to your computer or emule cant connect right.
take a look here ;)

on ZA you need to allow server conections for emule.

on Kerio fw you must set "solve adress" to disable by using emule, otherwise the firewall crashs

newsgroups are totally different to emule I'm afraid. downloads are not instantaneous (its p2p not a centralized server so you have to wait in the persons queue until the people ahead of you are served) just let it run and the downloads will start if you are connected with a highid and have forwarded the ports
