My suggestion:
Release and found threads should have to start with [REL] and [FND] respectively and they would be open only to the original poster, admins, mods and verifiers. Therefore any reply would be an update or a correction and there would be no more confusion wethere it's a new or old release.
Everyone else can use the "Thank topic" button or pm the releaser if they want to thank him/her personally or point out any mistakes.
Forbidding new users from posting would not be helpful at all. We all want as many new releases and founds as possible, don't we? |

| If you'll read more closely you'll see that i didnt suggest forbidding new users from posting; only mass-posting. How many new users are actually posting Found's in 15 or 20 old threads within 5 mins time? |

I can read:
Loki wrote: I've discovered a great solution to the problem. Over at the Stern Fan Network, they have a rule for new members. No new threads for the first 30 days and 30 posts. No more than 1 post per 30 mins. What we need here is something similar. I suggest for new members like the assholes who mass post 'thanks' there should be no more than 1 post per day, for the first month in addition to no new threads. The rules could be relaxed for a period after that before all restrictions are lifted.
I really think this would defeat the problem effectively without any complex hiding or marking threads, which would be a nuisance too.
What if new users want to make several releases and don't have 30 minutes to waste between them? Why else would serious users register? You want to make them wait first for the activation, then 30 days to post a release, because of a few black sheep? |

| at least he changed it up with a "great initiative" once. My suggestion would be perfect for this situation. |
