| I doubt it will have superior quality to XviD, wouldnt be the first time DivX makes outrageous claims about its "superior" codec, "40 % faster, better compressability" etc. So far XviD has managed to stay ahead everytime ;) |

| Some nice additions to the divx format, but I think it can't be used by standalone divx players, so I don't want to dl such movies |

If i see it in GordianKnot, and i can do it with Xvid, then maybe i'll use it...
Otherwise, i'm not switching to Divx just for it...i don't see the scene doing it either...hell, those lovable curmudgeons still use Dvix 3 occasionaly, LOL. |

Well, as much as I know it will be backward compatible.
I believe the finest grade standalone players will have firmware upgrade which will 'fix' it.. |

for what I know, it's the usual divx codec optimized (nothing really new) so it's still comparable to xvid and all the other mpeg4 asp codec.
For the container (format) it's an avi hack that allow multiple audio tracks,subs,video tracks (normal and hi def) plus menus so it can be played with every player that plays avi with mpeg4 video, only menu and second video cant be played on standalone and this right now without firmware upgrade.
For menus and video hi def tracks it's necessary a new generation of standalone with new hardware/chipset. |

Until I have a stand alone that supports this, I won't be downloading anything in this format, nor will I rip anything in this format.
Besides, I still prefer XviD over DivX, so I won't even want to use the DivX-codec itself anytime in the near future, let alone something like this, which most people haven't even heard about... |

The creaters of DivX must have fallen a sleep. All the hype is about HD right now, and DivX just isn't delivering. Nero is pwning them hardcore ass spanking style.
I think adding menus to normal avis would be awesome, but groups wouldhave to readjust. I don't think they will. It probably takes more time and effort, would be good though to have a scene selection menu.
Kinda sounds like they're going DVD style now, useless really until compatible standalones are out. Once they are it could be the shiznit because it's more movie than svcd or vcd on one cd and usually with higher quality. add menu with bg-pic, maybe music, audio track selection, scene selection and you've loved some valueable mb already
where was I going with this?
