I'm not exactly sure where to post this, but help seems logical.

While on holiday recently I decided to do a bit of DIY porn and filmed several girls, most in the same bathroom. As you can see in the picture below, the colour of the lights in the bathroom has meant that there is too much red and not enough blue (the tiles on the far left should be white).

Simply decreasing the red and increasing the blue works to a point, as does changing the colour temperature so it's more blue. However, the dark areas (e.g. the shadow under the right shoulder of the girl in the foreground) look very odd then.

I'm sure I'm not the first person with this problem, so does anyone know the 'proper' way of doing this kind of colour correction, so the shadows look right as well?

Looking at the histograms of that sample frame, you have crushing on the blue channel (the darkest blues are below the dynamic range). You can't perfectly correct that, because you've lost color information, that's why when you boost the blues, the darkest blues are wrong, and there's a similar problem with the brightest reds. But you should be able to play with the color curves to balance it out a bit better than it is.

Ah I see, that explains the problem I'm seeing with the reds after correcting. I guess I was just hoping there was a 'magic' fix for this kind of problem. Anyway, thanks panzerboy :)
